The Miao Ethnic Minority is the second largest in Hainan by population size. Over 400 years ago during the
Ming Dynasty the Miao people began migrating over to Hainan. They even have their own language which
interestingly enough has no written form. The traditional costume for the Miao women consists of wrapping
their hair in a head cloth and wearing an intricate silver head piece. They wear a long dress created
from bright, hand woven fabrics with no collar and buttons down the right side.
